Ubuntu 4.10, Warty Warthog
This was the first ever release of Ubuntu, it was shipped with early versions of GAIM, GIMP, GNOME, OpenOffice and Firefox.
Ubuntu 5.04, Hoary Hedgehog
Hedgehog was the second released in 2005, which added some more features like the update manager, upgrade notifier and allowed installation from USB devices.
Ubuntu 5.10, Breezy Badger
Badge was the third Major release of Ubuntu in October 2005, it had major security fixes and introduced new features such as a graphical boot-loader, Add/Remove app, language selector, HP printer support, OEM installer support and integration with Launchpad.
Ubuntu 6.06, Dapper Drake
It was released in 2006 and marks the 4th installment of Ubuntu, Many useful features were added such as Live CD and Install CD was merged onto one disc a splash-screen for start-up as well shutdown.
Ubuntu 6.10, Edgy Eft
It surfaced in the market in October 2006, a note-taking app calle Tomboy and F-spot photo manager was added. It also included EasyUbuntu as a meta-package and modified version of Human theme.
Ubuntu 7.04, Feisty Fawn
Fawn popped up in April 2007 and was the 6th Release of Ubuntu, the new features added were Compiz 3D effects, support for WiFi protected access, new games etc.
Ubuntu 7.10, Gutsy Gibbon
It marks the 7th release of Ubuntu which surfaced in October 2007, It introduced even faster desktop search, a Firefox plugin manager, fast user-switching mode and Compiz Fusion.
Ubuntu 8.04, Hardy Heron
It popped up in April 2008 and marks the 8th release of Ubuntu.
Ubuntu 8.10, Intrepid Ibex
Intrepid is gonna be 9th Release that is expected to come out later in October 2008.
