I am not an expert in SEO nor i used to take SEO seriously until i came across, miserable failure, a Google Bomb that used to link to official Page of former President George W. Bush. There was no way the term Miserable failure was mentioned on the Profile page of George W. Bush.

Now google has killed this google bomb, however sometimes back if you have entered ‘miserable failure’ in Google SERP the top ranking page was George W. Bush’s Official Profile. While it could be little funny. However there was a lesson for people who just wanted to learn some of the SEO Tactics.

The reason why George W. Bush was ranking top of the list for search engine query ‘miserable failure’ because many of the websites and blogs were linking to official profile of George Bush with anchor text ‘miserable failure’ so that means thousands of backlinks were created to influence the Google SERP. Therefore it’s very easy to draw the conclusion that Google along with search engines such Yahoo highly value the backlinks.

So if you want your website or blog to rank higher in SERP that make sure that many other Websites and blogs linkback to your blog while making sure that you don’t violate the terms and conditions of Google. Since buying backlinks on other blogs are frowned upon by Google. If you really write quality content then chances are people would link back to your blog or in case you break some story over the internet, then your breaking story most likely to be picked up by other blogs and linked back. And another way to generate legitimate backlinks to your blog is to offer a free download of a WordPress theme, which has a link back to your own blog. As more and more people use this theme, more backlinks are automatically generated to your blog hence it would increase your SERP ranking.
