Google just introduced a New Feature to its popular Google Toolbar, SideWiki which can be installed with  a single mouse click, and it would let you comment and ‘Share your knowledge’ as they say on the Web pages you visit. Further you have the option to rate the comments by other to determine how useful and relevant they are to a certain web page.

Above image demonstrate how the comments would look like in the sidebar of the Webpage. You may call me conservative but I have to agree with Robert Scoble who said on Twitter, that Big Internet companies must stay away from our content. I personally would not like a discussion taking place off my site for any of my blog post. If people have got something to say about my Website they should rather comment on my blog.

Anyhow, this new feature can only be installed as a part of extended Google Toolbar which you have to install from here, therefore so far it only works with Firefox and Internet explorer and ironically Chrome does not support it but in future it would become part of the chrome browser. And no wonder major blogs would now notice less activity or comments on their blogs if this feature ever has to become popular.

I think it will not be a successful service of google. Mostly people won't install google toolbar, and they don't have enough time to see every page and then leave comments through google sidewiki. May be some pages get some comments. I have also written a tutorial how to use google sidewiki on my blog. http://www.shoutpedia.com/google-sidewiki-lanuc...

    2. I have used sidewicki to complement content created by people I respect ! Now if your content were forsale by subscription I would agree with you ! I also add content I like to Stumble Upon and other Bookmarking sites why would sidewicki not be as legitimate as reddit, conotea,mr wong et al they have comment areas !

    3. well, the difference between social bookmarking and sidewiki is that they bring traffic to my site, therefore most of the bloggers don't object to them, however i don't see if sidewiki would ever bring any traffic to my site, rather the visitors of my blog would be leaving comments in sidewiki and i guess no blogger would ever appreciate it.

    4. Does the design of sidewicki limit it from in any way sending traffic to your blog!
      “Publish helpful information
about any web page right in your browser
      Read insights in context
from Sidewiki entries added by others
      “Share Sidewiki entries through
Blogger, Facebook, Twitter and Google profiles” if not then Google misinformed users since adding to Blogger Facebook Twitter and Google profiles are exposing your site to accepted traffic builders !” Robert Scoble is very bright but he always seem's to argue with what he does not invent-Imran we all know what brings readership is well crafted content take a lesson fron Steve Rubel and Chris Brogan they create readership by
understanding content is King ! Thanks for your response !
