Earlier I wrote a brief tutorial how you can optimize your Robots.txt file for a WordPress Blog. Which directs the Search bots not to crawl files and directories which should not be visible in the Search Index and also helps you avoid duplicate content issues.

However another very important element in SEO is considered to be ‘backlinks’, the links which point to your Website or Blog. In order to rank high in Search Engines you would need to have certain amount of ‘quality’ backlinks pointing to your Blog. And this is no secret. Recently I have been observing several Blogs and Websites with Low quality content or user-generated content and despite that they Rank high in the SERP. And all of them  had in common was a good number of backlinks from other websites.

You can generate backlinks in several ways, However keep in mind Google does evaluate  each backlink that points to your blog. Reciprocal Link exchange don’t hold much value in Google books, however this does not mean they are worthless altogether. Preferably you should try to get ‘one-way’ backlinks.

    Article Submission:

Article submission to Article directories such as ezinearticles.com is one of the most effective one-way linkbuilding methods, that almost every SEO expert recommends and uses. They not only help you build links but also drive good amount of traffic to your blog. As you submit an article to these directories you are allowed to include the link to your Website or blog.

    Blogroll:

Exchanging links with other Bloggers in your niche through Blogroll has been very common. I am not quite sure if this is still every effective, However if you can get people to include your blog in their Blogroll it would certainly help you get more traffic.

    Offer Free Themes:

In my opinion If you want to instantly get tons of backlinks to your blog, then you must offer some free WordPress themes for download which include a link back to your Blog. If you have enough coding skills then you can create a theme yourself, or alternately you can hire someone to develop one for you.

    Forum Signature:

While Online Forums such as DigitalPoint are great source of learning. They also help you build links to your Website or Blog. Include the links to your Blogs in your Forum signature.

    Guest Posting:

Like submitting article to article directories, you can also write posts for other popular blogs in your Niche. Which normally include a Link back to your blog in every post you write for them.

    Social Bookmarking  sites:

Most of the Social Bookmarking Websites use no-follow tag therefore they are not very effective, However there are quite a few who don’t such as Reddit. And you can submit your Blog posts to them in order to increase the number of backlinks to your blog.
